FootballDarwin Nunez: Liverpool Star Misses Glaring Chance Against Toulouse in Europa League Clash
- Darwin Nunez's glaring misses continued during a Europa League game on October 26
- Nunez rounded off the goalkeeper but could only hit the post with an empty net in front of him
- The Uruguayan had a decent game overall save for the embarrassing miss
Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez rolled back his first-season struggles in England after he produced a miss of the season contender on October 26.
The striker is yet to live up to the hefty €75m fee the club paid for his services in the 2022 summer. He was roped in from Benfica with Jurgen Klopp hoping to have a world-class forward after his dazzling displays for Benfica.
The Uruguayan, however, struggled to adapt to Premier League life, getting a straight red card early in the campaign. His first season in Merseyside was punctuated by high-profile misses, fitness issues and a number of cameos off the bench.
The script hasn't quite changed this season, but his output in front of goal has considerably improved. For instance, he was the star of the show when a 10-man Liverpool side came from behind to beat Newcastle on August 27.
He is yet to get a considerable run of games in the side, with Klopp previously comparing him to Robert Lewandowski, whom he coached at Borussia Dortmund, as quoted by GOAL.
Darwin Nunez's miss against Toulouse
Any progress the 24-year-old might have made could be dampened by his latest miss for Liverpool. The former Benfica man started upfront during their Europa League clash against Toulouse.
In the second half, with Liverpool leading 3-1, Nunez was sent through on goal. He beautifully left a defender on the floor before rounding off the goalkeeper. But with the empty goal glaring at him, Nunez hit the post before falling to the turf, hands on his head.

FootballLuckily for him, Ryan Gravenberch pounced on the rebound to extend Liverpool's lead to 4-1. Ironically, Nunez had earlier scored from a tighter angle to make it 3-1. Diogo Jota, Wataru Endo and Mohamed Salah scored the other goals for the Reds.
Graham Potter linked with Man United
In other news, Sports Brief also reported on Graham Potter’s links with Manchester United in the unlikely event Erik ten Hag is dismissed.
Potter has been without a job since April after he was sacked at Stamford Bridge following a string of poor performances.
The 48-year-old is a top candidate for the Old Trafford role should Ten Hag get the sack.
